86-Year-Old Gen. Moses Ali Silences Doubters, Storms Back to Parliament Despite Health Debate

Uganda’s First Deputy Prime Minister and long-serving NRM stalwart, General Moses Ali, has once again defied political expectations after securing re-election as Member of Parliament for Adjumani West Constituency in the 2026 general elections.

At 86 years old, the veteran politician defeated his main challenger, FDC candidate Patrick Tandrupasi with landslide of 12, 854 votes, extending his decades-long grip on Uganda’s political landscape, a victory that comes months after a heated national debate over his health and fitness for office.

In October 2025, President Yoweri Museveni’s endorsement of General Moses Ali sparked widespread discussion, with critics raising concerns over his visibly frail health. However, the seasoned leader brushed aside the criticism, first surviving intense NRM party primaries where he pulled 8,609 votes, comfortably defeating his closest rival who managed 4,492 votes.

That primary triumph set the pace for his latest parliamentary victory, proving that his political base in Adjumani remains firmly intact.

Photos released by the Office of the Prime Minister show the jubilant General celebrating yet another milestone in a career that has shaped Uganda’s leadership for generations.

His re-election has since ignited mixed reactions online and in political circles — supporters praising his loyalty, experience and legacy, while critics question whether Uganda’s oldest lawmakers should continue occupying frontline political roles.

One thing is certain, General Moses Ali is not ready to exit the stage just yet.
