CID Boss Magambo Issues Stern Warning Ahead of 2026 Polls: “No One Will Be Allowed to Disrupt Peace”

The Director of Uganda’s Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), AIGP Tom Magambo, has delivered a firm assurance that the 2026 general elections will proceed peacefully, warning that anyone who threatens the safety of citizens will face the full force of the law regardless of political affiliation.

Speaking during a press briefing, Magambo emphasized that the CID is fully prepared to handle any election-related disturbances, promising swift legal action against individuals or groups attempting to incite violence or intimidate voters.

He revealed that this commitment is backed by extensive preparations already underway. Since 2024, the CID and Uganda Police have been conducting specialized training for officers to manage electoral security, alongside joint operational plans developed with the Directorate of Public Prosecutions to ensure quick prosecution of election-related offenses.

Magambo’s statement comes against the backdrop of Uganda’s history of tense election periods, where past polls — including the 2021 general election  witnessed arrests, confrontations, and scattered unrest. Authorities now say they are determined to prevent a repeat of such incidents.

As the country heads toward the 2026 vote, security agencies insist that maintaining peace is non-negotiable  and that the law will be applied equally to all.
