Former Ugandan music star Gen Mega Dee, real name Amos Kigenyi, has reached a new milestone after graduating with a PhD from California Intercontinental University in the United States.
The singer, who once ruled Uganda’s music charts with hit songs in the early 2000s, completely reinvented himself after relocating to the U.S. in 2017 to pursue a career in healthcare.
After obtaining the necessary certifications to practice medicine, Gen Mega Dee went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare in 2021, before officially becoming a Doctor in 2024. His latest achievementa Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
Sharing the proud news on his social media pages, the now-medical professional dedicated the achievement to his wife, children, and family, thanking them for their unwavering support.
“From the rhythms of a humble musician’s struggle to the melodies of academic triumph, my journey has been nothing short of extraordinary,” he wrote. “I have walked through hard stones, faced doubts, and conquered fears — emerging not just as a survivor, but as a self-made champion.”
Gen Mega Dee also thanked those who doubted him, saying their skepticism fueled his determination.
“This is academic excellence at its peak — earned with distinction, not bestowed as an honorary gesture. It is the fruit of perseverance, sleepless nights, and an unyielding spirit,” he added.
He wrapped up his message with an uplifting note to his fans and followers:
