Democratic Front (DF) member and MP Kimaanya -Kanonera,Masaka city, Abed Bwanika has taken a swipe at musician-turned-politician Mathias Walukaga following a High Court ruling that upheld the Electoral Commission’s decision to cancel his nomination for the Busiro East parliamentary race.
Reacting to the judgment via his X Platform, Bwanika said the court could not “manufacture or award academic qualifications,” advising Walukaga to return to school and properly prepare for future elections.

“The court cannot give you academic qualifications. If you lack them, go back to school. 2031 is not far,” Bwanika remarked, in comments that quickly sparked debate on social media.
The High Court ruled that Walukaga did not meet the minimum academic requirements at the time of nomination, finding that the Mature Age Entry Certificate he presented had expired and was therefore invalid. As a result, the Electoral Commission’s decision to cancel his nomination for the Busiro East seat was declared lawful.
Walukaga had been nominated to contest for Member of Parliament for Busiro East Constituency in Wakiso District, a seat currently held by veteran lawyer and politician Medard Sseggona.
The ruling effectively ends Walukaga’s bid to contest in the upcoming election, reigniting discussion about academic qualifications and eligibility requirements for parliamentary candidates in Uganda.
