Former Vice President and Speaker of Parliament Edward Ssekandi has warmed hearts after sharing a rare and deeply personal update celebrating 50 years of marriage with his wife, Margaret Ssekandi.
Taking to social media, the veteran statesman reflected on the milestone with gratitude, crediting their long-lasting union to faith and divine guidance. In his message, Ssekandi thanked God for sustaining their marriage and blessing them with a strong and loving family over five decades.
“Happy wedding anniversary to me and my beautiful wife Margaret Ssekandi. Today, we celebrate 50 years in marriage, and we thank the Almighty God for blessing, guiding and protecting us always. We thank Him too for the beautiful family that He has blessed us with,” Ssekandi wrote.
The post was accompanied by a series of intimate photographs offering a rare glimpse into the couple’s private life away from public office. The images show the two sharing a warm embrace on a porch, enjoying a relaxed conversation with drinks in their living room, and walking together at an airport — moments that reflect companionship built over time.
Ssekandi’s golden jubilee celebration comes against a backdrop of his long-standing tradition of publicly recognising marriage milestones of fellow leaders, including President Yoweri Museveni and former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi. This time, however, the spotlight turned on his own family journey.
The anniversary message drew widespread engagement and praise online, with many Ugandans applauding the couple’s commitment and describing their marriage as a powerful example of stability and partnership within the country’s leadership.
For many, Ssekandi’s 50-year milestone stands as a reminder that beyond politics and public service, enduring love and family remain a lasting legacy.
