Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II of Buganda has strongly condemned acts of violence directed at opposition supporters and urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to play an impartial role in the electoral process.
Addressing concerns ahead of the 2026 elections, the Kabaka appealed to the Commission not only to denounce violence but also to ensure all candidates are treated fairly and allowed to freely convey their messages to voters without obstruction.
“Our colleagues in the Electoral Commission, we ask you not only to condemn this issue but also to help impartially every candidate to convey his message to the voters, without obstruction,” the Kabaka said.
His remarks come amid growing concerns over political intolerance and campaign-related violence, with calls from various quarters for peaceful, inclusive and fair elections as Uganda heads toward the 2026 polls.
