His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, the King of the Buganda Kingdom, on Monday paid a visit to the 600-megawatt Karuma Hydropower Plant (HPP) in Kiryandongo District, one of Uganda’s most strategic national projects.
During the visit, the Kabaka was taken on a guided tour of the massive facility, where officials highlighted the scale of the plant, the engineering expertise behind its construction, and the strict operational standards used to protect the critical national asset.
The tour offered His Majesty a closer look at how the hydropower station contributes to the country’s electricity supply and supports Uganda’s long-term development goals.
In his closing remarks, the Kabaka commended the staff of the Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) for their dedication and professionalism in safeguarding the plant.
He applauded their role in delivering reliable and sustainable power, describing Karuma as a source of national pride and a key driver of economic growth.
The Karuma Hydropower Plant is expected to play a vital role in strengthening Uganda’s energy security and supporting industrialisation across the country.
