Kalungu East MP-Elect Nkeretanyi Faces Shs3.7 Billion Theft Case as Court Drama Deepens

Kalungu East MP-elect Yusuf Kiruluuta Nkeretanyi has once again appeared before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court, this time facing explosive allegations of theft involving household items valued at a staggering Shs3.7 billion.

The prosecution claims that between 2018 and January 2022, Nkeretanyi unlawfully took high-end curtains, cushions, and decorative holders belonging to prominent businessman Hajj Sulaiman Lwabuuka.

In court, Lwabuuka delivered testimony that added a personal dimension to the case. He told the magistrate that Nkeretanyi was a frequent visitor to his home and had developed a close relationship with his wife.

According to the businessman, some of the allegedly stolen items were later recovered from a shop reportedly linked to the accused.

Nkeretanyi, who ran on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket, secured his parliamentary seat earlier in 2026 following a tightly contested race that culminated in a recount. His recent electoral victory has now cast a political shadow over the ongoing legal proceedings.

The case rooted in events that date back several years has ignited intense public debate online. While some observers are calling for swift justice and possible imprisonment, others are questioning the timing of the prosecution, suggesting it may be politically motivated.

As the court process unfolds, the intersection of politics, personal relationships, and serious criminal allegations continues to fuel public interest in what is shaping up to be a closely watched legal battle.
