Mathias Mpuuga Opens Up About Claims of Democratic Front Backing Museveni in 2026

The Democratic Front (DF) president Mathias Mpuuga has come out to clear the air on reports making rounds on social media that his party plans to endorse President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the 2026 general elections.

This comes in after a statement was shared on a fake DF X (formerly Twitter) account, alleging that the party had dumped Mubarak Munyagwa, the presidential flag bearer of the Common Man’s Party, and chosen to back Museveni instead.

According to the fake post, DF had reached the decision after “extensive consultations” and a “review of the political environment,” claiming that supporting Museveni was in the “interest of national stability and progress.”

“Our attention has been drawn to a message circulating online purporting to be from the Democratic Front endorsing certain presidential candidates. Please be advised that there has been no such announcement from the DF leadership,” Mpuuga clarified.

He also warned the public against believing false information spread by fake accounts pretending to represent the party.

“The X handle from which the message originated is operated by individuals who have no connection to DF. Please treat it with the contempt it deserves and say no to misinformation,” he added.
