NUP’s Busiro East MP hopeful, Sir Mathias Walukaga, has launched a fresh attack on incumbent Medard Lubega Ssegona, accusing him of secretly influencing the Electoral Commission to throw him out of the 2026 race.
While addressing the press at NUP headquarters in Makerere-Kavule on Tuesday, Walukaga claimed Ssegona “bribed his way” to get him disqualified, calling the move a political ploy that will be challenged legally.

Walukaga insisted his supporters shouldn’t lose hope, alleging that one of Ssegona’s associates was among the petitioners who contested his academic papers.
NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya backed Walukaga, saying the people of Busiro East had “already rejected” Ssegona and accused the incumbent of trying to dodge fair competition.
But the Electoral Commission spokesperson, Julius Mucunguzi, dismissed the accusations, maintaining that Walukaga was removed from the race because he failed to meet the minimum academic qualifications required for MPs.

Efforts to get a comment from Ssegona were unsuccessful. Stay tuned here as drama unflods
