President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala as the new Inspector General of Government (IGG), replacing Beti Olive Namisango Kamya Turwomwe.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, by Deputy Presidential Press Secretary Farouk Kirumda, signaling a major leadership shift at the Inspectorate of Government the body responsible for promoting good governance, ensuring accountability, and fighting corruption in public institutions.
Beti Kamya, who took office as IGG on July 15, 2021, following Justice Irene Mulyagonja’s appointment to the Constitutional Court, leaves behind a legacy of advocacy for integrity and citizen participation in the fight against corruption.
During her tenure, she championed the enforcement of the Leadership Code and launched initiatives such as the Expose the Corrupt campaign to encourage public whistleblowing.
Kamya’s deputies, Patricia Achan Okiria and Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe, will remain in their positions to support the new IGG.
Justice Naluzze Batala joins the Inspectorate with extensive judicial experience from her service on the High Court bench. Her strong legal background is expected to strengthen the institution’s investigative and oversight functions, reinforcing a rule-of-law approach to anti-corruption efforts and transparency promotion.
As the new IGG, Justice Naluzze will oversee investigations into corruption, authorize prosecutions, issue directives and reports, summon witnesses, and prepare the Inspectorate’s reports to Parliament. Her appointment underscores the government’s continued commitment to bolstering institutional integrity and advancing the fight against corruption in Uganda.
