Col. Samson Mande, one of the founding members of the National Resistance Army (NRA) and bush war veteran , has appealed to jailed opposition figure Dr. Kizza Besigye to consider reconciling with President Yoweri Museveni as a possible path to regaining his freedom.
In remarks shared through a recent report, Col. Mande who returned from exile last year suggested that dialogue and reconciliation with the President could help ease Besigye’s current situation.
He emphasized that political differences should not permanently close doors to peace and understanding, especially among leaders who have previously worked together in shaping the country’s history.

The call has sparked debate, with supporters and critics weighing in on whether reconciliation is a realistic or acceptable option for the veteran opposition politician, who has long been a fierce critic of President Museveni’s leadership.
As Besigye remains behind bars, Col. Mande’s remarks add a new dimension to the ongoing national conversation about political dialogue, reconciliation, and the future of opposition politics in Uganda.
