NRM’S MUBANGIZI SNATCHES BUWEKULA SOUTH MP SEAT AFTER DRAMATIC RECOUNT

The Mubende Magistrate’s Court has officially declared NRM’s Dedan Mubangizi as the duly elected Member of Parliament for Buwekula South, following a court-ordered vote recount that reversed the earlier election outcome.

After a tense recount exercise supervised by the court, Mubangizi secured 7,908 votes, narrowly defeating Fred Tumwesigye, who polled 7,505 votes.

The ruling overturns the Electoral Commission’s initial declaration, which had earlier named Tumwesigye an independent candidate as the winner. Mubangizi had challenged those results, alleging manipulation in the original tally.

With the court’s decision, Mubangizi now officially takes the Buwekula South parliamentary seat, delivering a major win for the NRM and ending weeks of uncertainty in the constituency.

The Buwekula South verdict adds to a growing list of court-driven reversals in Uganda’s 2026 elections, where razor-thin margins and legal challenges have reshaped final parliamentary line-ups highlighting both voter intensity and the rising role of the judiciary in settling electoral disputes.
