The NRM flag bearer for the Isingiro District Woman MP seat, Lillian Ruteraaho, has urged Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama to reconsider his directive requiring voters to leave polling stations immediately after casting their ballots.
Ruteraaho claims that some candidates have colluded with the EC in ways that undermine voters’ voices, calling the situation “deeply unfortunate” and a threat to justice.
She has appealed to her supporters to stay at least 20 metres from polling stations after voting to safeguard their ballots from alleged attempts by rival candidates to manipulate the process.
“Leaving polling areas completely could expose the electoral process to vote manipulation,” Ruteraaho warned, urging voters to remain alert until voting concludes.
Her statements have sparked debate ahead of elections, highlighting rising concerns over transparency and voter protection in Isingiro District.
