Allan Charles Odongo, who had earlier secured the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag for the Kwania North parliamentary seat, has officially crossed to the National Resistance Movement (NRM), dealing a fresh blow to the opposition camp in the area.
Odongo confirmed his decision after formally cutting ties with NUP and pledging loyalty to the ruling party.
He urged his supporters to rally behind President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the presidential race and to vote for NRM candidates at parliamentary level.
Speaking after meetings with President Museveni and the Deputy Speaker at State House on local radio station , Odongo said his decision was based on consultations and engagement with national leaders. He pledged to actively mobilise support for the NRM candidate in Kwania North.
The defection marks a significant political shift in the constituency and adds to a growing trend of opposition figures switching allegiance as Uganda moves closer to the 2026 general elections.
Political observers say the move is likely to reshape local political dynamics, with competition expected to intensify as parties reorganise and strengthen their grassroots support ahead of the polls
