NUP Ibanda Woman MP Candidate Defects to NRM Days to Elections, Cites Lack of Support

The National Unity Platform (NUP) Woman MP candidate for Ibanda District, Patricia Kenyangi, has officially crossed to the ruling NRM, just 11 days before polling day, dealing a fresh blow to the opposition party.

Kenyangi, who is married to Peter Mpaka, the former NUP flag bearer for Mbarara City North who also defected to NRM last month, said her decision was driven by frustration over lack of financial backing from the NUP leadership.

She claimed that both she and her husband had expected financial support from NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, to facilitate their campaigns, but the promised support never came.

The latest defection adds to a growing list of opposition figures switching allegiance to the ruling party as the election draws closer, further intensifying the political contest in western Uganda
