The National Unity Platform (NUP) has suspended Kyambogo University Guild President Emmanuel Andama for six weeks, accusing him of betraying party principles after attending a closed-door engagement at State House.
The meeting was organised by the State House Investors Protection Unit, a body operating under the Office of the President.
Trouble for Andama started after photos and a post from the unit’s official X account surfaced online, showing him among selected student leaders invited to the meeting.
In a statement released on January 9, 2026, NUP’s Institutions Wing said Andama elected on the NUP ticket in 2025 had crossed a red line by engaging with what the party described as a regime that suppresses dissent and undermines democratic freedoms.
NUP reiterated its long-standing position that members must not participate in or legitimise platforms linked to President Yoweri Museveni’s administration, especially closed-door State House engagements.
“As a recognised member of our party and a leader elected under the NUP banner, Comrade Andama carries a political and moral duty to uphold party values at all times,” the statement read.
The party warned that Andama’s actions risk sending confusing signals to students and young people who look to NUP for principled leadership. It also noted that Andama assumed office after a by-election that followed the controversial removal of former Guild President Akiso Benjamin, now NUP’s Head of Institutions, placing an even greater responsibility on him to remain loyal and disciplined.
NUP further cited reports of Andama’s dinner engagement with Kyambogo University Vice Chancellor Prof. Elly Katunguka, describing it as part of a “disturbing pattern of fraternisation” with forces hostile to the party’s struggle.
Under the resolution, Andama is barred from all NUP activities for six weeks, effective immediately. He is forbidden from speaking or acting on behalf of the party during this period. Investigations will be conducted, after which a disciplinary hearing will give him a chance to respond.
The party also warned that any other student leaders found attending similar State House engagements will face the same consequences.
NUP concluded by calling on students and youth to stay committed to the struggle for democratic change and to rally behind NUP candidates in the coming elections.
“The National Unity Platform remains steadfast in its commitment to discipline, accountability, and people-centred leadership,” the statement said.
