Kyengera Town Council MP and National Unity Platform (NUP) member Mathias Walukagga has officially declared his full support for Ssaalongo Emmanuel Magoola Matovu, who is contesting for the Busiro East parliamentary seat as an independent candidate.
Walukagga’s announcement comes shortly after the High Court upheld the Electoral Commission’s decision to disqualify him from the race. The court ruled that Walukagga’s nomination papers were incomplete, effectively locking him out of the contest.
Speaking to the press earlier today , Walukagga said he had made a personal decision to back Magoola, whom he described as a leader capable of effectively representing and fighting for the people of Busiro East.

“I have chosen to support Magoola because I believe he has what it takes to serve our people and push their issues forward,” Walukagga said.
However, Walukagga’s endorsement appears to clash with the official position of his party. Senior figures within NUP have distanced themselves from any cooperation with politicians running outside the party’s official ticket, commonly referred to as the “Umbrella” symbol.
The development sets the stage for fresh political tension within the opposition camp, as the Busiro East race heats up ahead of the coming elections.
