Police Arrest NUP Supporters in Mbarara as Bobi Wine’s Campaign Rally Faces Tension

The Uganda Police Force has confirmed the arrest of a number of National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters in Mbarara following the first rally of party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

Bobi Wine is currently in the Ankole sub-region, mobilizing supporters ahead of the forthcoming general elections. His convoy was briefly stopped on the way to Bwizibwera, sparking concerns and reactions among supporters and locals who turned up to welcome him.

In a statement released on November 7, 2025, police said those arrested were involved in acts that allegedly included assaulting officers, damaging government property, and interfering with security operations.

Police emphasized that they are committed to providing security for all candidates during the campaign period but warned that disorder and criminal activities will not be tolerated.

Authorities called upon all political groups to remain peaceful, respect the law, and follow set campaign guidelines as the election season intensifies.
