Rukungiri Police are investigating a shocking attempted murder targeting Angello Twinomuhangi, an independent candidate for the Rukungiri District LC V chairperson seat.
Twinomuhangi was discovered abandoned, unconscious, and tied up at Minera Bridge in Nyarushanje Sub-county on the evening of January 6, around 9:00 p.m.
Police reports indicate that the victim had a handkerchief tied across his mouth and his arms bound behind his back with what is believed to be a USB cable.
Authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the circumstances of the attack and identify those responsible. No arrests have been confirmed yet.
This alarming incident has raised concerns about political violence in the district as the 2026 elections approach.
