Traffic Police Dismiss Claims Linking President Museveni to Mpigi Traffic Jam

Traffic Police have rubbished claims that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was responsible for the massive traffic jam that paralyzed parts of Mpigi along the Masaka–Kampala highway.

President Museveni is currently in Mpigi District for his political mobilisation campaigns a head of 2026 elections and on Monday he kicked off with Butambala.

According to traffic police spokesperson SP Michael Kananura, the gridlock was mainly caused by an unusually high volume of vehicles travelling from Masaka towards Kampala, combined with indiscipline among some motorists.

Drivers allegedly created illegal extra lanes, which ended up blocking vehicles moving in the opposite direction from Mpigi towards Masaka.

The situation was made worse by a road crash involving a truck and a lorry at Lungala, which temporarily brought traffic to a complete standstill. In addition, a broken-down trailer in the Kamengo area further disrupted the smooth flow of vehicles.

Traffic Police say officers were deployed on the ground and managed to restore order, after which normal traffic movement resumed.

Police have urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation and instead rely on verified updates.
