Former Trade Minister Amelia Kyambadde’s daughter, Amber Kyambadde, has officially split with her husband, Edgar Bagumire, after court ruled that he was violent, emotionally neglectful, and had financially drained her.
According to court records, Amber proved that their family in the UK survived entirely on her income including her NSSF savings and over Shs 211M from land she sold in Kigo. Justice Celia Nagawa ruled that this amounted to serious financial abuse.

The court also noted a pattern of emotional neglect that left Amber overwhelmed. Although she suspected Edgar of cheating, there was no solid evidence, so the divorce was granted on grounds of cruelty alone.
Amber returned to Uganda in July 2023 with their three children and has been caring for them alone in Old Kampala. Edgar sends Shs 1M monthly for support, but the court has now ordered him to increase it to Shs 2M.
On custody, Amber has been granted primary custody, while Edgar will have visitation rights whenever he is in Uganda.
Amber also requested Shs 300M alimony, but the judge declined, noting she is educated, employable, and capable of rebuilding financially.
