Uganda Arrests 231 Foreign Nationals in Major Crackdown on Illegal Migration and Cybercrime

Kampala, Uganda — Authorities have arrested 231 foreign nationals in coordinated operations targeting irregular migration and criminal activity across the country.

The National Citizenship and Immigration Control (NCIC) led the raids, detaining 62 Nigerians in Adjumani over alleged illegal activities, including running a church without the required permits.

In a separate operation in Bukoto, Kampala, 169 suspects were arrested from a restricted apartment complex accused of cyber fraud, illegal online gaming, and unlicensed betting operations.

Ministry of Internal Affairs spokesperson Simon Peter Mundeyi said the Bukoto group comprised nationals from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and several other African and Asian countries. Many were found without valid passports or identification documents.

According to officials, some suspects claimed to be victims of trafficking, while others were allegedly found in possession of IT equipment linked to online scam operations. Among those detained were 36 women.

Investigations into the coordinated operations are ongoing
