The Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) has launched an urgent inquiry into the status of National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, following reports suggesting he may be under confinement after the recent elections.
In a swift response, the commission dispatched officers to his residence in Magere to verify the claims and ensure his fundamental rights are protected.
“A commission team visited Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu’s residence in Magere, Kasangati, Wakiso earlier today. The Head of our Kampala Regional Office interacted with his wife, Barbara Kyagulanyi, who advised that her husband was not available to engage with the team at the time. UHRC engagement remains ongoing,” the commission stated.
The development has sparked public interest and concern, with many awaiting clarity on Bobi Wine’s condition and whereabouts. UHRC says it will continue its engagement until full verification is achieved.
More updates to follow as the situation unfolds.
