The Muslim community in Uganda is in mourning following the tragic passing of Sheikh Hussein Twahiri Walugumba.
In a heartfelt condolence, His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, described Sheikh Walugumba as a humble, soft-spoken scholar who dedicated his life to Islam and humanity. He called on Muslims to emulate the late Sheikh’s exemplary character and unwavering commitment to faith.
Sheikh Walugumba represented the Busoga Muslim region on the Majlis Al-Ulama and also served as Principal of Nahadha Islamic Institute, founded by the late Sheikh Ali Bakari, father of Deputy Mufti Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa.
The Mufti prayed for Allah’s mercy on the late Sheikh, asking that his efforts be accepted, his shortcomings forgiven, and that he be granted eternal peace among the righteous.
According to UMSC spokesperson, Haj Zziwa Ashiraf, the esteemed scholar passed away following a fatal accident and will be laid to rest on Monday, January 12, 2026, at his ancestral grounds in Bugweri.
