The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has confirmed the recovery of 34 missing Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) Integrated Science scripts from Bamure Primary School in Koboko District, easing fears over the fate of affected candidates.
In a statement, UNEB revealed that the scripts were discovered sealed inside a lockable box in the head teacher’s office, days after internal quality control checks flagged their absence ahead of the official release of PLE results.
Due to the uncertainty surrounding the missing papers, UNEB had temporarily graded the affected candidates as “X”, a placeholder used when scripts are unavailable during initial marking.

Following the discovery, Koboko Central Police Station was called in to verify the integrity of the scripts. Authorities confirmed that the examination papers had not been tampered with, clearing the way for UNEB to proceed with the marking process.
The recovered scripts have since been forwarded for marking, with UNEB assuring parents, schools, and candidates that the process will be completed in time for pupil selection and placement exercises.
UNEB Assures Candidates and Parents
UNEB emphasized that the recovery ensures no candidate will be disadvantaged, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the credibility and integrity of national examinations.
The Board urged schools to maintain strict handling procedures for examination materials to avoid similar incidents in the future, as preparations continue for the next stages of the education cycle
