The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has released the 2025 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results, showing a slight improvement in overall performance compared to previous years, with English emerging as the best performed subject nationwide.
The results were officially announced this morning at State House Nakasero during a ceremony presided over by the First Lady and Minister for Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni.
According to UNEB, the number of candidates attaining Division One has increased, signalling a positive shift in learner performance and allowing more pupils to qualify for secondary education.

UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo revealed that 91,990 candidates passed in Division One, representing 11.39 per cent of the total candidates who sat for the examinations.
Odongo noted that while the figures point to a modest improvement, comparisons with the 2024 results where 11.7 per cent attained Division One should be interpreted carefully.
He explained that variations in candidate registration and cohort size across the years affect direct performance comparisons.
UNEB further reported that English stood out as the strongest subject overall, reflecting improved literacy outcomes among learners. The board attributed the gradual performance gains to increased emphasis on foundational learning, improved teaching methods, and closer monitoring of assessment standards.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the results with cautious optimism, calling for sustained investment in teacher support, learning materials, and learner welfare to ensure continued improvement in future examinations.
More details on subject performance and district breakdowns are expected in UNEB’s full statistical report.
