The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has hit back at NTV Uganda, calling claims that it threatened voters “false and misleading.”
According to Col. Chris Magezi, the army’s statement, made by Capt. David Kamya in Gulu, was meant to protect youth from being dragged into election violence, not intimidate citizens.
“The media twisted our words. At no point did we threaten anyone,” Magezi said, emphasizing that the advisory focused on youth safety, public order, and protecting democratic rights.
The clarification comes as tensions rise ahead of the 15 January 2026 elections, with opposition figures like Joel Ssenyonyi accusing the army of voter intimidation.
The UPDF urged responsible reporting and called on Ugandans to vote peacefully and return home safely, reiterating their commitment to a calm, violence-free election.
