Uganda’s Vipers Sports Club has officially confirmed the departure of midfield maestro Allan Okello, ending a glittering chapter at St Mary’s Stadium following his transfer to Tanzanian powerhouse Young Africans SC (Yanga).
Okello leaves Kitende as a certified winner. He bows out on a high after driving Vipers to a historic 2024/25 domestic double lifting both the StarTimes Uganda Premier League and the Stanbic Uganda Cup in one of the club’s most dominant modern-era seasons.
At the peak of his game, the gifted playmaker finished as the Uganda Premier League’s top scorer with 19 goals for the 2024 /25 campaign, a rare achievement for a midfielder and proof of his ruthless impact in front of goal.
During his league spell at Vipers, Okello tallied 24 goals and 13 assists in 58 SUPL appearances, while adding four goals and two assists in the Uganda Cup. Numbers that underline his status as Kitende’s creative engine.
On the continental stage, he carried Vipers’ ambitions in the 2025/26 CAF Champions League, guiding the Venoms to the second preliminary round with commanding performances under pressure.
Okello joined Vipers in September 2023 after a stint with Algeria’s Paradou AC and instantly became the heartbeat of the team. His vision, technique, and composure in big moments made him a fan favourite and a leader on the pitch.
With six months left on his contract, Vipers agreed to his exit a gesture of appreciation for his service and respect for his ambition to embrace a new challenge.
Okello now heads to Dar es Salaam to join Young Africans SC, stepping into the famous yellow and green shirt worn by Ugandan stars such as Emmanuel Okwi, Khalid Aucho, Hamis ‘Diego’ Kiiza and Steven Bengo.
He arrives at Yanga not just as a signing but as a battle-tested winner ready to conquer a new frontier.
