‘We Reject Bloodshed’ – NUP Candidates Defect to NRM as Museveni Sounds Peace Warning

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has warned that Uganda will not tolerate chaos or violence, saying the NRM government will firmly protect peace and stability.

“There is no place for chaos in Uganda,” the President said.

Museveni made the remarks on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at State Lodge Nakasero, Kampala, while welcoming National Unity Platform (NUP) parliamentary candidates who crossed to the ruling NRM.

Those received included Ojangole Anthony, MP aspirant for Agule County and NUP Chairperson for Pallisa, and Godfrey Kateu, MP aspirant for Pallisa County and NUP Secretary General for Pallisa District.

The President praised the candidates for what he described as foresight and welcomed them to the NRM, assuring them of a peaceful political environment.

He also pledged that the 2026 general elections will be free and fair, while cautioning especially the youth against being used to cause violence before, during or after elections.

Museveni warned against emerging opposition-linked gangs, saying security agencies will decisively deal with anyone attempting to disrupt peace.

“Ugandans should mobilise peacefully, not encourage violence,” he said.

The President commended Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa and Haji Faruk Kirunda, the Special Presidential Assistant on Press and Mobilisation, for spreading NRM ideology across the country.

Haji Kirunda told the President that more opposition candidates are preparing to join NRM due to its leadership and vision.

Speaking for the new members, Ojangole Anthony said they rejected calls for chaos and bloodshed, choosing peace and lawful politics instead.

“Uganda has been built over the years. We cannot be part of destroying it,” he said, urging those seeking power to do so peacefully through elections.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Speaker Tayebwa, Pallisa RDC Majid Dhikusooka, Pallisa District NRM leaders, and other party officials.
