New reports coming in from Jinja suggest growing friction inside Busoga’s political circles as the Tourism Minister Hellen Namutamba, with backing from Hon. Rebecca Kadaga are accused of mobilizing groups led by Nabasirye to distribute money and incite demonstrations around Bugembe, targeting Obwa’Kyabazinga properties.
The storm was triggered after Lands Minister Sam Mayanja revealed that during investigations into the Bugembe land saga, he came across an old letter signed by then Presidential Private Secretary Kenneth Omona, instructing the Ministry of Lands to protect residents of Mafubira and Bugembe from eviction.
But also, according to Rebecca Kadaga’s camp, particularly through Namutamba, now accuses Busoga Kingdom Prime Minister Joseph Muvawala of politically abandoning her. They’ve also linked him to claims that land around Bugembe Hill — legally registered under Obwa’Kyabazinga — has been mishandled, although no official dispute has been confirmed publicly.
The Kingdom maintains the land belongs to them and continues to encourage squatters to register legally.
Insiders add that Kadaga, once considered a firm loyalist of the Busoga Kingdom, now feels isolated. Her allies claim she believes the current leadership is deliberately sidelining her as she grows older, fueling an ongoing rift.
This is not the first time Minister Namutamba has faced controversy. She was previously arrested in connection with alleged blackmail against Speaker Anita Among after blogger Brian Kinene confessed to receiving mobile money from her to smear Among and Kadaga’s political rivals in Busoga.
