President Museveni Announces New Special Fund for Jobless Graduates After University

Speaking out to a rally, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni revealed plans to create a new fund targeting university graduates who have remained unemployed for two years or more.

“I’m introducing a fund specifically for university leavers, If you’ve completed your studies and have not found employment within two years, you should be able to benefit from this initiative” he said.

The proposal comes as part of the government’s broader efforts to tackle youth unemployment, which remains one of Uganda’s biggest challenges. The announcement also comes at a crucial time, with the country heading toward the 2026 general elections.

Details on how the fund will operate, who will qualify, and the scale of its financing are yet to be disclosed, but the move has already sparked debate among young people eager for opportunities and policymakers watching its feasibility.
