Bobi Wine Cites Maduro’s Arrest as Wake-Up Call to Museveni

National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has stirred fresh political debate after addressing a huge crowd in Bududa, where he drew striking parallels between events in Venezuela and Uganda’s political future.

While speaking to cheering supporters on Saturday , Bobi Wine referenced the dramatic capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by U.S. forces on January 3, 2026, following an airstrike operation in Caracas. Maduro was arrested on drug-related charges linked to unresolved allegations of fraud in Venezuela’s 2024 elections.

Bobi Wine told the crowd that the developments in Venezuela should serve as a strong warning to long-serving leaders like who cling to power through alleged election manipulation and repression of citizens.

“What happened to Maduro shows that no leader is untouchable. When people are oppressed for too long, the world eventually pays attention,” Bobi Wine said.

He argued that Uganda, under President Yoweri Museveni’s decades-long rule, faces similar challenges of disputed elections, shrinking democratic space, and human rights concerns. According to Bobi Wine, the Venezuelan case offers a timely lesson as Uganda heads toward the highly anticipated 2026 general elections

The NUP leader urged supporters to remain united, peaceful, and courageous, insisting that real change begins with citizens standing firm against injustice.

Bobi Wine’s remarks electrified the Bududa rally, further energizing NUP supporters as political temperatures continue to rise ahead of the 2026 polls.
