Animal Industry Minister and NRM flag bearer, Hon. Bright Rwamirama Kanyontore, has been officially declared unopposed in the race for the Isingiro North parliamentary seat.
The development follows the sudden withdrawal of Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) candidate Anthony Rutahwire under unclear circumstances.
Earlier, the Electoral Commission had disqualified other contenders, including Ankunda Best Arnold of the PFF and Ntanda Sharif, for allegedly forging the signatures of their seconders despite having been initially nominated.

Rwamirama shared the announcement on social media, posting the official EC form confirming his unopposed status, dated January 9, 2026, alongside a photo with the returning officer, signaling procedural approval.
The news has sparked mixed reactions online. While over 100 supporters praised Rwamirama’s leadership, others questioned the authenticity of the backing, citing the EC’s recent disqualifications that have ignited national debates on electoral fairness.
With the unopposed declaration, Rwamirama heads into the January 2026 polls in a strong position, though the broader conversations around EC’s decisions continue to dominate public discourse.
