President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has once again secured Uganda’s top seat, and the reaction across Africa has been swift. Following his declaration as winner of the presidential election, regional leaders have poured in congratulatory messages, cementing Museveni’s status as one of the continent’s longest-serving rulers.
According to the Electoral Commission, Museveni, 81, won 71.65% of the vote, defeating opposition challenger Bobi Wine, who garnered 24.72%. The victory grants Museveni a seventh term in office, stretching his rule to nearly four decades since first taking power in 1986.
Kagame Leads the Applause
Rwandan President Paul Kagame was among the first to congratulate Museveni, praising the enduring ties between the two neighbours.
“Congratulations President Museveni on your re-election. I extend my best wishes to you and the people of Uganda as you continue to serve your nation. I look forward to continued strong cooperation between our two countries,” Kagame said.
Ruto: ‘A Reflection of Public Confidence’
Kenyan President William Ruto described Museveni’s victory as proof of public trust in his leadership.
“Your decisive victory reflects the confidence the people of Uganda have in your personal leadership and in the NRM party,” Ruto stated.
Somalia Hails Regional Stability
Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud credited Museveni’s leadership for Uganda’s role in regional stability and development, reaffirming Somalia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
African Union Weighs In
The African Union Commission Chairperson, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, also congratulated Museveni and commended the conduct of Uganda’s election.
With another term secured and continental backing on full display, Museveni’s political dominance remains firmly intact as Uganda steps deeper into an era defined by one of Africa’s longest-standing presidencies.
