CDF Gen.Muhoozi Announces Arrest of Suspected Terrorist

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, says security forces have arrested a man accused of plotting attacks on NRM supporters.

The image, shared on Muhoozi’s social media platforms, shows young shirtless male detainee seated under guard. The military chief claimed the suspect had urged violence against the ruling party NRM supporters a charge that has not yet been independently verified.

“We have captured this terrorist,” Muhoozi wrote, insisting the suspect would “pay for his crimes.”

The dramatic post comes as Uganda faces a sweeping security crackdown following the disputed January 2026 general election.

According to statements previously issued by Muhoozi himself, more than 2,000 opposition supporters have been detained, while at least 30 people have been killed in operations targeting members of the National Unity Platform (NUP), the party led by opposition figure Bobi Wine real name Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.

Human rights groups and opposition leaders say many arrests have been arbitrary, raising alarms over enforced disappearances and torture.

Muhoozi’s latest declaration has also revived memories of his own controversial 2025 social media post, where he vowed to kill 10 NUP supporters for every NRM voter harmed during political unrest.

That statement, widely condemned at the time, has never resulted in any known investigation or sanction  fueling criticism that incitement linked to the ruling party is treated differently from that attributed to the opposition.

The latest arrest display has intensified debate over Uganda’s shrinking civic space and the military’s expanding role in political affairs.

Observers warn that public parading of detainees and online threats by senior security officials risk normalizing violence and deepening fear across the country.
