The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has officially endorsed Speaker Anita Annet Among and Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa to retain their powerful positions in the next Parliament, setting the stage for continuity in House leadership.
The decision was reached during a high-level Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting held Tuesday at State House, Entebbe, party officials confirmed. The endorsement clears the path for the two lawmakers to be presented as NRM’s official candidates when the 12th Parliament convenes.
“I am all over the moon,” Speaker Among said after the endorsement, expressing gratitude for the party’s renewed confidence in her leadership.

Among, who made history in 2022 as Uganda’s first female Speaker of Parliament, assumed office following the death of her predecessor, Jacob Oulanyah, in March 2022 in Seattle, USA. Since then, she has presided over a Parliament marked by intense legislative business, heated oversight debates, and the passage of key government bills.
Meanwhile, Ruhinda North MP Thomas Tayebwa, the current Deputy Speaker, has earned praise within NRM ranks for firmly steering parliamentary proceedings and managing often tense plenary sessions.
His re-endorsement signals stability in the House’s command as the ruling party gears up for the next legislative term.
Party insiders say the CEC’s move is intended to safeguard cohesion in Parliament and ensure the House leadership remains aligned with the ruling party’s legislative agenda.
Although the Speaker and Deputy Speaker are formally elected by Members of Parliament at the first sitting of a new Parliament, NRM’s numerical dominance traditionally gives its endorsed candidates a decisive edge.
The endorsements come as political parties finalize internal arrangements ahead of the swearing-in of the new Parliament following the 2026 general elections.
