“UN Is Silent as Uganda Bleeds” – NUP ‘s Bobi Wine Calls Out Guterres Over Post-Election Crackdown

Ugandan opposition leader and 2026 presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has publicly expressed disappointment with the United Nations, accusing it of turning a blind eye to alleged human rights abuses following Uganda’s disputed January 2026 presidential election.

In a video message filmed outdoors and widely shared on X, Bobi Wine questioned why UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who is reportedly inUganda, has not spoken out against what he described as escalating repression, violence, and democratic backsliding in the country.

Bobi Wine maintains that President Yoweri Museveni’s re-election on January 15, 2026, was fraudulent, insisting the results do not reflect the will of the people. Since the announcement of the results, rights groups say Uganda has witnessed a brutal crackdown on opposition supporters.

According to reports by Human Rights Watch and Reuters, more than 2,000 opposition supporters have been detained, while at least 30 people have been killed in post-election violence.

The situation has reportedly forced Bobi Wine and several other opposition figures into hiding over fears for their safety.

“The world cannot keep watching in silence,” Bobi Wine said in the video, urging the international community to step in and protect Ugandans facing intimidation and abuse.

The video quickly gained traction online, attracting over 1,000 likes and igniting heated debate. While many users echoed Bobi Wine’s call for international protection and accountability, others criticized the United Nations for what they described as continued inaction in the face of Uganda’s political crisis.

As pressure mounts, all eyes remain on the UN delegation’s presence in Uganda and whether global leaders will respond to growing calls to address the country’s post-election turmoil.
