A fresh political storm is unfolding after Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu alias Chairman Nyanzi , the National Unity Platform (NUP) Head of International Relations and brother to NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine), issued a strongly worded statement dismissing claims that he is a state witness in an ongoing court case.
In his statement shared on X formely twitter, Nyanzi categorically denied allegations by state prosecutors that he is set to testify against fellow NUP members accused of unlawful military-style drilling in a case before the Kanyanya court.
He emphasized that he has never recorded any statement with authorities, dismissing the claims as fabricated and misleading.

Nyanzi went further to recount his own past experiences under similar accusations, alleging that he was previously abducted, held incommunicado, and subjected to torture over what he described as false charges orchestrated by the state.
According to him, the current case mirrors a pattern of politically motivated persecution targeting opposition figures.
The NUP official accused the government of deliberately using the case to sow distrust within opposition ranks, particularly within NUP.
He also pushed back against circulating misinformation, including old television interview clips being reshared to support the prosecution’s narrative.
Nyanzi concluded his message with a rallying call to Ugandans urging the public not to fall for what he termed regime propaganda and also reaffirming solidarity with detained opposition supporters.
Nyanzi hinted that more revelations are forthcoming, promising to address the media in detail as the situation develops.
“This is my statement to counter falsehoods. At an appropriate time I will address media as more issues unveil. A lot is expected to happen but I know God is on our side,” Nyanzi stated.

For now, his statement adds another layer of tension to an already contentious case, one that could have far-reaching implications for Uganda’s political landscape.
