EC Boss Byabakama Reveals 7 Officials at Every Polling Station Ahead of 2026 Elections

Uganda’s Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama, has unveiled strict measures to ensure transparency in the upcoming 2026 general elections.

Speaking during pre-election briefings today, Byabakama confirmed that every polling station will have seven clearly identifiable officials, including an election constable, to oversee voting when polls open in mid-January.

He also urged media outlets to exercise professionalism, calling on journalists to promote peace and stability before, during, and after the elections amid growing public scrutiny.

The announcement comes in the wake of a recent controversy in Ibanda District, where candidates raised alarms after 11 ballot boxes were delivered with broken seals during materials verification, exposing logistical challenges EC is working to address.

Byabakama emphasized that transparency and public confidence remain top priorities as Uganda heads into what is expected to be a closely watched election.

Stay tuned for more updates as elections nears.
