President Yoweri Museveni has expressed deep gratitude to God for sustaining his family through Uganda’s turbulent history, as he celebrated the marriage of his granddaughter, Sasi Karugire.
In an emotional message, Museveni credited divine guidance for his family’s endurance during some of Uganda’s most difficult periods. He reflected on raising children amid national instability and witnessing the growth of multiple generations.
“I am grateful to God for blessing me and Maama Janet with a family… even during very challenging times when Uganda was in turmoil. I am thankful to have lived to see my children grow up, start their own families, and now… to see my grandchild, Sasi Karugire, getting married. It teaches me that when you do God’s work, He will do yours.”

Sasi Karugire is the daughter of Natasha Museveni Karugire and Edwin Karugire, making the occasion a significant milestone for the First Family.
The traditional introduction ceremony, held in Kashari, brought together relatives, cultural performers, and dignitaries. The event formally introduced Sasi to her groom, the son of Sam Kavuma, in a celebration marked by gifts, dances, and vibrant displays of heritage.
Blending Tradition and Modern Influence
Museveni, dressed in his signature white shirt and hat, used the occasion not only to give thanks but also to reflect on cultural practices, cautioning against fragmenting traditional ceremonies into multiple events.
Adding a modern twist to the celebration, Nigerian music star Mr Eazi energized guests with lively dance moments, blending celebrity presence with deep-rooted cultural pride.
While many supporters praised Museveni’s message as a testament to faith, family, and perseverance, others used the moment to raise concerns about governance issues, including political prisoners and human rights in Uganda.

The ceremony ultimately stood as both a personal family milestone and a moment that sparked broader national conversation highlighting the intersection of leadership, legacy, and public accountability.
