Barbie Kyagulanyi Recounts Alleged Military Raid, Trauma and Recovery Journey

Barbie Kyagulanyi, women’s rights advocate and wife of Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine, has shared a detailed account of an alleged military raid on their home that occurred on January 16, 2026.

In her reflection, she alleges that armed soldiers stormed their residence, assaulted her, and repeatedly demanded information about her husband’s whereabouts. The confrontation, she says, escalated into severe physical distress, leaving her unconscious due to a spike in blood pressure.

Barbie described the incident as a moment of total rupture in her life, likening it to a complete “format” of her identity where everything she had known about herself and her stability collapsed in an instant.

She further revealed that the aftermath extended far beyond the day of the raid, detailing three months marked by emotional turmoil, psychological strain, and gradual personal reconstruction.

Despite the trauma, she emphasized that unwavering support from close friends, family, and a network of women’s solidarity helped her slowly rebuild her sense of self in a different form than before.

Her post also referenced a circulated screenshot reportedly shared by military figure Muhoozi Kainerugaba, showing her lying on the floor in a visibly distressed state during the raid.

The image has since triggered widespread reactions online, with many supporters expressing solidarity, sending prayers, and praising her resilience in the face of what they describe as a deeply distressing and politically charged incident.

The account continues to fuel discussion across social and political circles, with supporters framing it as a story of survival and endurance, while others call for accountability and clarity regarding the events described.
