Betty Nambooze Breaks Silence, Questions Among After Shs1B Museveni Claim

Mukono Woman MP Betty Nambooze has launched a sharp attack on Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, questioning her role during President Museveni’s recent visit to Mukono in Central Buganda.

“In Mukono, President Museveni used to be welcomed by the people of Mukono themselves. How come it is now you, someone from Budadengo, welcoming him in Buganda?” Nambooze fired, sparking fresh political tension.

She went on to recall the 2017 Parliament age-limit clashes, saying even a village resident knows that if bitten by a neighbour’s dog, it’s the owner who treats you.

“I was beaten in Parliament by government security operatives commanded by Frank Mwesigwa. The state even used taxpayers’ money for my medical treatment after they broke my spine. It’s shameful to say that was Museveni’s money.”, she said.

Nambooze did not hold back, addressing Among and Museveni directly: “If I had died, you would have been the same people claiming we lost an irreplaceable person, while calling us bad people.”

Hon. Betty Nambooze – Anita Annet Among

Her remarks came after Anita Among claimed Nambooze secretly received nearly Shs1 billion from Museveni for medical treatment in the United Kingdom.

According to Among, the funds covered travel and treatment for Nambooze, her husband Bakireke, and a domestic worker. Among described the assistance as a humanitarian gesture despite Nambooze’s frequent criticism of the government and the ruling NRM.

“I want to thank you for having such a heart. Even when Hon. Nambooze publicly attacks and insults you, that does not take away your good heart,” Among said, praising Museveni.

The Speaker also accused opposition leaders of hypocrisy.

“Opposition leaders should not lie to voters that they don’t benefit from the NRM. We work with them and share what little we have, but when they go back to the public, they demonize the ruling party for selfish interests,” Among said.

The heated exchange has stirred political debate in Buganda as the January 15 elections approach.
