“Democracy Must Be Fought For” – Solomon Kampala Urges Ugandans to Rise Up After Museveni’s 7th Term Victory

Solomon Kampala Kyagulanyi, son of National Unity Platform (NUP) leader and presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine, has ignited a storm online after issuing a bold message urging Ugandans to rise together and fight for genuine democracy.

In a post shared on his X account amid the tense aftermath of the 2026 general elections, Solomon called on citizens to take collective responsibility for liberating the nation, warning that real democratic change is never handed out freely — it must be fought for.

Drawing lessons from historical struggles in the United States and Singapore, Solomon argued that countries stuck under long-serving leadership often experience delayed progress because citizens wait for change instead of driving it themselves.

His remarks come at a time when President Yoweri Museveni secured a seventh term, following an election period marked by protests, arrests of opposition supporters, and a nationwide internet shutdown, keeping the country on edge.

Rather than calling for outside intervention, Solomon emphasized people-led liberation, insisting that lasting democracy can only be built by citizens standing up for their future.

But his message has sharply divided opinion. Supporters have praised it as a powerful wake-up call for national action, while critics accuse him of speaking from comfort and safety, questioning his direct involvement as protesters on the ground face arrests and violence.

The reactions reflect a widening rift between diaspora activism and frontline resistance, as Uganda enters another heated post-election chapter.
