Electoral Commission Clears Lubyayi to Contest for Mawokota South MP Seat

The Uganda Electoral Commission has officially cleared John Bosco Lubyayi Sseguya to contest for the Mawokota South parliamentary seat in Mpigi District.

Lubyayi had been under scrutiny after he was summoned by the Electoral Commission on December 15, 2025, to present and verify his nomination documents following concerns raised about his eligibility.

The issue stemmed from a petition filed by a voter, Asiimwe Mariam, who alleged that Lubyayi lacked the required Senior Six (S.6) academic qualifications, a key constitutional requirement for anyone seeking election to Parliament.

However, in a statement signed by the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Simon Mugenyi Byabakama, the Commission confirmed that Lubyayi’s academic documents were found to be in order. As a result, he has been duly approved to appear on the ballot alongside other candidates contesting for the Mawokota South MP seat in the 2026 general elections.

Lubyayi is contesting as an independent candidate.

Following the decision, Lubyayi accused one of his rivals of orchestrating the petition against him, claiming it was a deliberate move to tarnish his name and block his political ambitions.
