Renowned Ugandan Catholic priest Fr. Anthony Musaala has weighed in on the growing debate over the display of the national flag in different places, stressing that the symbol belongs to all citizens, not the state alone.
Fr. Musaala said there is nothing wrong with the national flag being planted anywhere, including in churches, because it represents the people of the country.
“The flag belongs to the people, which is why we also have it in church,” he said.
The outspoken priest questioned why so much energy is being spent attacking citizens over the use of the national flag while major national challenges remain unresolved.
He pointed to widespread corruption, poor road networks, and the persistent lack of medicines in health centres as urgent issues that deserve far more attention than confronting citizens for carrying or displaying the national flag.
Fr. Musaala urged leaders and authorities to shift their focus to addressing the real problems affecting ordinary Ugandans instead of creating unnecessary conflicts over national symbols.
