“I Am Not in Exile, Am on a Mission” – Bobi Wine Vows Return to Uganda to Challenge Museveni

Uganda’s opposition leader and former presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has declared that his stay abroad is part of a calculated political mission not exile, reaffirming his determination to unseat President Yoweri Museveni.

Speaking to supporters in Boston on April 24, 2026, Kyagulanyi delivered a firm and defiant message aimed at clarifying his current status and political direction.

“Fellow comrades, allow me to set the record straight: I am not in exile—I am on a mission. And when that mission is accomplished, my destination will be Kampala, Uganda, to remove Museveni from power.”, Bobi Wine declared.

Kyagulanyi dismissed ongoing speculation that he fled Uganda, instead framing his presence abroad as a deliberate and strategic phase in his broader political struggle. His remarks underline a continued push to challenge Museveni’s decades-long leadership while positioning himself at the center of Uganda’s opposition movement.

The NUP president left Uganda following the disputed January 2026 presidential election, citing safety concerns. He later resurfaced in Washington, D.C. in March, where he launched a series of town hall meetings and advocacy engagements across major U.S. cities, including Boston and New York.

These international efforts are aimed at mobilizing global attention and increasing pressure on Museveni’s government.

Kyagulanyi’s latest statement has reignited debate among both supporters and critics, with many closely monitoring his next steps. As Uganda’s political climate continues to evolve, his remarks signal that his ambitions and confrontation with the current administration remain firmly on course.
