Former National Unity Platform (NUP) founding leader Moses Nkonge Kibalama has reconciled with the party leadership and officially withdrawn all court cases challenging Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu’s leadership.
Kibalama, who previously headed the National Unity, Reconciliation and Development Party (NURP) before it rebranded to NUP in 2020, had for years disputed Kyagulanyi’s takeover of the party. Together with former Secretary General Paul Ssimbwa Kagombe, he accused the new leadership of breaching earlier agreements.

Speaking at the NUP headquarters in Kampala, Kibalama called for unity, saying it was time to put differences aside and work together for the good of the party and the country.
Kagombe also apologized to the party leadership and confirmed the withdrawal of the court case, saying the decision followed deep reflection. He urged supporters to rally behind Kyagulanyi ahead of the coming elections.
NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya welcomed the move, noting that the legal battles had previously hurt the party and delayed key processes. He said the leadership was glad Kibalama and his team accepted responsibility and chose reconciliation.

Party Treasurer Benjamin Katana said NUP remains committed to unity, adding that internal divisions had been fueled by political opponents. He stressed that reconciliation was the right step forward.
The reconciliation marks a major boost for NUP as it prepares for the next presidential elections.
