Mugisha Muntu Admits ANT Has No Evidence to Challenge Museveni’s 2026 Win

Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) presidential candidate Gen. Mugisha Muntu has revealed that his party will not file a court petition challenging the results of Uganda’s 2026 presidential election, citing insufficient evidence to sustain a legal battle.

Speaking to the press after the announcement of final results, Muntu admitted that ANT failed to gather the required documentation particularly Declaration of Results (DR) forms due to limited deployment of polling agents across the country. Without these critical forms, the party cannot present a credible case in court.

The January 14, 2026 presidential election saw National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate and  incumbent  President Yoweri Museveni declared the winner with 59% of the vote, extending his decades-long rule.

The results have been met with claims of rigging from opposition figures, though no formal court challenge has yet been successfully filed.

Muntu, who secured approximately 2.5% of the national vote, acknowledged that the outcome exposed organizational weaknesses within ANT, despite years of promises to build a strong grassroots political network.

The decision not to contest the results in court effectively ends ANT’s legal route to overturn the election outcome, shifting focus to internal restructuring ahead of future political battles.
