MUSEVENI FIRES BACK: President Dismisses Kasibante’s Supreme Court Petition, Denies Bribery and Election Fraud Claims

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the NRM presidential candidate, has through his lawyers filed a sworn response to the Supreme Court, firmly rejecting allegations of bribery, voter inducement and security force interference in the 2026 presidential election.

The accusations were raised in a petition by National Peasants’ Party leader and presidential candidate Robert Kasibante, who finished sixth in the race. Kasibante claims the election was tainted by misuse of government resources, voter bribery and intimidation by security agencies, arguing these actions influenced the final outcome in which Museveni was declared winner with 7,946,772 votes.

In a detailed affidavit before the court, Museveni denies all accusations, insisting the election was conducted in full compliance with the Constitution and electoral laws. He has asked the Supreme Court to dismiss the petition with costs, describing the claims as speculative and unsupported.

The President also distances himself from allegations that his campaign teams bribed voters or handed out money to special interest groups. He specifically denies knowledge of claims that UGX 3 billion was allegedly paid to mechanics’ associations to influence votes.

“I have no knowledge of any such payments, nor did I authorize any individual or group to engage in voter bribery,” Museveni states, challenging Kasibante to provide strict proof of every allegation.

Museveni further rejects claims that security agencies were used to intimidate voters or manipulate the electoral process, maintaining that security personnel only carried out their constitutional duty to preserve law and order during the election period.

With the President’s formal response now on record, the Supreme Court is set for a high-stakes legal battle that could test both the credibility of the electoral process and the burden of proof on the petitioner.
